I'm finally back on my grind after NYCC and some other changes that have been going on. Before I get into the changes tho, let's back up and look at NYCC.

NYCC
First, I want to say thanks to all those that came out to show support! It really makes it worth it seeing peoples faces light up because of something you did. And for those who bought something, extra props for you. I hope you are enjoying your art! Lastly, thanks to Rob, Micheline and Eugene for holding down the spot and making it a fun experience.

This was the first con I've done in years, and it was interesting to see how peoples spending habits have changed. It was also very fun to see all the costumes that were going around. I didn't get much of a chance to walk around and see the show, which was insanely huge incase you missed it. I did get to see and talk with Robert Kirkman tho, and that was awesome. He gave me a Walking Dead hat, which upon reflection, I should have had him sign, lol. I also got to meet Joyce deWitt ( Janet Wood of Three's Company ) and Tawny Cypress ( Simone Devaux of Heros ). There were plenty of other celebrities around as well that I only got a glance of. All in all it was a great time!

This year I had Original Art, Prints, and a new sketchbook: Gunn Smoke Vol 2, on sale. Currently I have a limited run of Gunn Smoke Vol 2 ( NYCC 2010 edition ) books left, and they are still for sale. If you are interested in purchasing one, just shoot me an email and I'll get back to you. Hopefully I'll have some more available in the future.

Changes
As I mentioned before, I've been going through some changes. The most notable is that I've left Nickelodeon after 7+ years. I had a great run over there. I've met tons of cool people and got to work on a lot of awesome properties. I will miss the things I came to love about that place, but now is the time for something new, tougher, better! There is a wide open world at my feet and I plan to hit the ground running. Actually, I already have!

While it might seem like things have stalled as of late, there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes right now. I'm still in a bit of a transitional period, but I'm keeping things moving on a daily basis. Also, a lot more of my time is devoted to the business side this game these days. It can be tough trying to do it for your self I know, but as an Artist, I think it is very important we learn at least a little bit about the bis side.

With that said, I have some exciting things in store for the future. Keep an eye out for more posts, art and entertainment. Holla.

WesBigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12120585067659382481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28887477.post-6076900393490665882010-09-18T15:54:00.001-07:002010-09-18T15:55:03.050-07:00NYCC 2010

Hey all, I know it's been way too long since my last post. All I can say is I've been busy/chillin', lol. But I'm trying to restore the balance that once was which included the personal projects.

So to kick that off, I've signed up for this years New York Comic Con. I'll be at booth #530, with Kohrtoons Studios. There will also be 2 other friends with us but I'll give more details on that later. The map will give you an over view of where we'll be. I'm not sure what I'll have this year but be sure to swing by and say hey at the very least. Once I figure it all out I'll update the blog with that info.

It's good to be back!

WesBigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12120585067659382481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28887477.post-19342725138884108742009-11-08T19:18:00.001-08:002009-11-13T17:28:31.917-08:00Holly and Hal Moose: Our Uplifting Christmas AdventureHi All, below is an artical about a holiday special I did storyboards for. "Holly and Hal Moose(TM): Our Uplifting Christmas Adventure," a one-hour feature movie, makes its nationwide premiere on ABC Family on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 7:00 PM ET/PT (with an encore presentation on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 10 AM ET/PT). The television special is based on a book and series of webisodes that introduced Holly and Hal Moose last year and captured their holiday antics, powerful imaginations and love of adventure.

"Holly and Hal" features Meaghan Martin ("10 Things I Hate About You," "Camp Rock") and Jonathan Morgan Heit ("Bedtime Stories") as the voices of Easton and Weston (respectively), two high-strung elves who monitor the North Pole Weather Center. In addition, an exclusive theme song, "When You Dream," was created for the movie by Tena Clark, award-winning music producer, song writer and CEO/chief creative officer of DMI Music & Media Solutions.

"Holly and Hal were our first characters to inspire a storybook, and now they're the first to become movie stars," said Maxine Clark, founder and chief executive bear of Build-A-Bear Workshop. "The tale of this antlered-sibling duo is meant to inspire people to follow their dreams -- no matter how big they seem. It's a classic holiday adventure that offers families the opportunity to start a new tradition of watching it together each season."

"We're very excited about this first-time partnership with Build-A-Bear Workshop," said Tom Zappala, senior vice president, Disney ABC Television Group. "The story of Holly and Hal Moose is a perfect addition to our family holiday programming."

Families can relive the excitement of the movie by making their own Holly and Hal stuffed animal friends and dressing them in new signature outfits and accessories from the movie. In addition, Build-A-Bear Workshop is introducing Lil' Hal, a rogue robot in Santa's Workshop until Holly rescues him from recycling and he becomes her skillful and loveable sidekick. Merchandise is available at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and online at buildabear.com(R). The movie DVD will be released starting Nov. 25.

To kick off the movie and holiday season, ABC Family and Build-A-Bear Workshop will host preview parties at several mall locations, offering Guests and special families the opportunity to view the movie early. Families who attend the preview parties will be asked to either purchase and make a furry friend at Build-A-Bear Workshop or bring a new, unwrapped gift to donate to Toys for Tots.

Additional support includes:

-- Movie promotions in buildabearville.com, the Build-A-Bear Workshop
virtual world, including interviews with Holly and Hal Moose on The Chloe
Show, the virtual world's celebrity interview show, new webisodes and
virtual giveaways (while supplies last).

-- Online and social media outreach via Facebook and Twitter, a blog
written by Holly (http://www.buildabear.com/HappyHollyBlog/blog/), the
creation of a Holly and Hal microsite, a Google advertising campaign and a
video offering on Hulu.com.

-- In-store and mall communications, including the distribution of paper
antlers with coupons (while supplies last), and a holiday mailer to Guests.

-- A specially-produced music video playing out the movie's inspirational
message.

-- A mini Holly and Hal giveaway offer on Black Friday (while supplies
last).BigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12120585067659382481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28887477.post-61655164453041114842009-08-16T08:13:00.000-07:002009-08-16T08:18:11.739-07:00Ebay AuctionsHey all. I'm sorry for the delay in updates, so here are a few things to make up for it :)

1) I'd like you mention that there are 3 new websites up in the gallery section. Each of these sites is owned by friends of mine, so I'll give a bit of a rundown on them for ya.

Chunky Art Studios

Designed by Juan Cano, this is a portfolio site of his paintings and drawings. Juan has a very unique style and a very abstract thought process. If you have an open mind and love to watch colors blend in wild ways, visit Juan's site and enjoy!

Eric Maltz Music Site

Eric is a friend I met thought another friend, Brad. He's a cool guy and very skilled musically. Eric's site was a team effort, designed by Brad Silverman and programed by Mark Vestrate and myself. Special thanks to Mark for figuring out the one bug issue ;)
Make sure to give his music a listen, you'll be glad you did.

Paperkat Design

This site was designed to promote Kathie Gambale. Another college friend, she has started her own business and I'm glad I could help her get it out there. Kathie designed this site herself, and I programed it for her. If you need something designed for a special event, or just for your own personal business, Kathie will take care of you.

2) I just finished doing some storyboards for Big Wonder Studios. It was a pretty big project, and I can't say much more about it yet, but rest assured it's something cool, and I'll say more as soon as I can.

That's about it for now. There are a few projects I'm currently reviewing and some personal projects I might be taking on as well. I'll be sure to share more when I now more. Hopefully that won't be too long from now ;)

WesBigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12120585067659382481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28887477.post-14267451990247883112009-04-29T12:23:00.000-07:002009-05-05T11:36:14.153-07:00Custom Myspace Design - The Local FocusHey all, I recently did a design for a friends myspace page. There was a bit of confusion surrounding the release date of this issue. But that's all over now as the book is IN STORES!

The story is about Augie on the morning of Captain Dynamo’s funeral and the problems he has to deal with because of the Captain’s absence. No spoiler alert here. If you’d like to know more about the story go out and buy Dynamo5 #20. As an additional bonus, #20 is a new starting point for this great book. Yep, we’re fans too. We’ve been buying it since the beginning.

Run, jump, FLY to your LCS (Local Comic Shop) and pick up this book, you will not regret it. Below are links to a few reviews I've fond on it so far. Let me know what you think.

Wes

Review 1

Review 2BigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12120585067659382481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28887477.post-31339989215961206692009-01-18T09:44:00.001-08:002009-01-18T09:45:59.704-08:00Dynamo 5 correctionI am a complete idiot for forgetting to mention that the inker for this awesome story is none other than Josh Templeton.

Josh, thanks for adding your skills to this project!

WesBigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12120585067659382481noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28887477.post-2613496772392384802008-11-30T05:01:00.000-08:002008-11-30T05:29:26.089-08:00Dynamo5

Hey all, it's been a long time since I've had some really cool news to share. Todays update is on the comic front.

Ever since its first book came out I've ben a fan of Dynamo5. Writen by Jay Farber, with art by Mahmud Asrar and colors by Ron Riley, D5 is a story about strangers bound by fate and a father they never knew. Currently D5 is up to Issue # 18, and I'd recommened this book as a great fun read for anyone who is interested (Start at the begining if you can).

In Issue # 20 of D5 I penciled a 5 page backup story for one of the charaters named Augie. It's a cool, sad, insightfull look into Augies past, as well as a riviting look at Tower Citys history. Writen by my good friend Stephan Nilson, with colors by Wesley Wong and letters by Charles Pritchett, this story will not dissapoint. I must say I'm very happy with how it came out and I can't wait to see it in print.

I want to give a special thanks to Wesley Wong and Khary Randolph for thier continued help and support, and to Stephan Nilson and Charles Pritchett for puttin me on. Thanks guys.

Be sure to look for Issue # 20 due out in Feb 09 in comicbook stores everywhere.

WesBigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12120585067659382481noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28887477.post-44469485678172347502008-11-10T11:15:00.000-08:002008-11-10T11:19:13.834-08:00MSC #3 Artist ProofHey all, so I got my Artist Proof cards and I'm down too 2 black ones left.

The pricing for my AP cards are as follows. Here are a few of the cards I did, and I'll be adding more very soon.

Com & Graf
Later this month I'll have a piece showing in a gallery in Boston. All my Boston peeps, if you have the time, check it out. The flyer for the show is attached and the time and address can be found on it as well.

Other stuff to note
I've recently started doing some work for the actress Meital Dohan. She played Yael Hoffman on the showtime show called Weeds. I've also been working on a few comic projects. I'm trying to step that area of my game up more. I should have some stuff in the next few months to talk about on that. Lastly, I've just finished up some storyboards for a project for the Build-A-Bear Workshop. Can't say any more than that at the moment, but stay tuned.BigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12120585067659382481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28887477.post-51403474382317165412008-07-30T03:55:00.000-07:002008-08-04T09:58:18.291-07:00BahcomEarly this year I was ask by a friend (Travis Johnson) to apply for a job drawing comics for his company, Booz Allen Hamilton. He was cool enough to ask me because we've worked together before and the experience was a very good one. As it turned out, I got the job and this experience was just like the prior ones.

The job was to do 5pg short stories that could be used as training comics for their employees. It started out as a black and white job, but they liked it enough to ask for me to color them as well. Once the color was done everyone was so pleased they wanted to do a flash version of the first story.

This is one of the main projects I've worked on this year. It's also one of the reason I've not keen able to keep up with my updates, lol. This keep me pretty busy for a few months and that's with all of the great help I had. I have to thanks Stephan, Sean and Rick from Across the pond studios - Sean colored the cover, Rick inked stories 1 and 3, and Stephan helped me get it all done in a smooth timely manner. I also have to give thanks to a new friend from over seas, Rin Burch - for doing the color flats for all 3 stories. It was out of the blue that she contacted me asking for the opportunity to do flats, a few weeks before I landed this job. I have to say I'm very greatful that she did.

I've been allowed to put up the artwork on my site provided I remove all copy, as it's for internal use only. You can view all of the pages and the flash file in my gallery section, under the comics heading.

WesBigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12120585067659382481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28887477.post-80233768497260888032008-07-12T07:11:00.000-07:002008-07-12T07:36:17.081-07:002008 UpdatesHey all, I'm sorry I've been away for so long, but here I am with a few minutes to share some stuff with you.

Art Show
First off, I recently had my first solo Art Show at K-Dog & Dunebuggy in my Brooklyn neighborhood. It was a really cool experience. I've been going to this cafe regularly and I've got to view a lot of quality work from other artists in my area. This past month was very weird to walk into the cafe and see all my work lining the walls. The best part was that I met so many cool people in my area because of it.

The reception was great. It got off to a slow start, but people started to stagger in one or two at a time. It was good tho cuz I got a change to talk with everyone who came out to support me. I sold a few art cards and some prints, and made lots of new contacts. I also took a few photos as you can see.

Sports (and other) Mugs
So in 2007 and into 08 I did quite a few illustrations for a company that makes Chinaware products. It's 2008 and I'm back on my grind. I had a great holidays and got plenty of rest. I hope all of you had the same.

I don't have anything new to show yet, but there are some crazy things in the works. There are a lot of projects in the air at the moment and we'll have to wait a bit to see which ones drop and which ones float. Until then check this out.

My friend Larry Christmas found this link awhile ago and passed it on to me. It's all old news, but it's always cool to find you name on a site like this.

Romeo show

The last thing I'm going to mention is that Batman Strikes #42 comes out Feb 13th. By as many copies as you can and pass them out to your friends and family. Tell everyone you know to go buy it. Show some love! Thanks. That's what I'm talking about. I can't say her name until D.C. does first, but you can see her being held up on the cover of the issue by the villain Bane.

This is her first appearance in any comic. To start off in the DCU, in the bat world of all places, is such a feat I can hardly control myself. This is the stuff dreams are made of. I grew up watching and reading batman, and now I've contributed to that universe. CRAZY!

Now the next step is to tell everyone I know to pick up multiple copies of that issue. Not only that, when you get, write into DC telling them you want to see more of our super heroin! We've got to get the word out there about her, and let DC know we want her around for more than a one time deal. If we can do this right she might get her own series, or wind up on the cartoon. How cool would that be?!?!?!?!

So listen, SPREAD THE WORD! and I mean SPREAD IT!!!!!!! For those of you who don't know these names, look them up! These are 3 very talented guys whom I respect and work with whenever possible. It seemed to be sheer luck that they all wound up on this book that is very special to me.

Why is it so special to me you ask? As you can see it's been quite awhile since my last update. These past few months have been a crazy roller coaster ride with plenty of ups and downs. With all that has been going on I haven't had time to keep you guys updated. Fortunately I've got a few moments here this morning so I'm gonna drop a big update on yea. I Hope your ready for it...

47 R.O.N.I.N
My buddy Lawrence Christmas hit me one day to say he was doing some illustrations for the Sprouse Brothers series titled 47 R.O.N.I.N. He asked me to do some digital inking on the illustrations he drew for the first 2 books titled " The Revelation" and "The Showdown". Since Larry is a great artist it's always cool to work with him cuz I get to learn a lot. Plus he works on some pretty cool projects and that's always fun. The rest of the illustrations can be found in the gallery section of my site, under the commercial heading.

Bee Movie
Not too long after I finished the work on the 47.R.O.N.I.N books I got a call from another buddy of mine, Stephan Nilson , saying he needed some ink work done on 2 Bee Movie books. I was very excited to work on such a cool property. There were a team of 4 inkers on this job since it was a rush gig. We knocked it out with ease and the colors were done by my boy Kanila Tripp. The books I've mentioned are titled " Barry's buzzy world" and The Honey Disaster".

Carolyn Schaefer
Carolyn contacted me through a mutual friend when she was ready to put her works on the Internet. I was very inspired by the quality of her work and was egar to wrap it up in a nice little shell for the world to see. Carolyn's site is currently featured on my sites main page. Be sure to check it out and let her know what you think of her site and her work.

Art mart 2
Last year when I moved to Brooklyn I participated in the neighborhoods first Art Mart. This year the Art Mart returned and I came back again to support the cause. This years AM was bigger than last, with more artists and more people checking out the work. I had sketchbooks for sale this year as well as baseball card size art cards. That was on top of the original art and prints I always have. I got to meet a lot of cool people in my hood as well as get some more of my work out there. It was great. Hopefully next year they will be able to do it more often. If they do I'll be out there!
*image to follow

Carl Weathers
This has got to be one of the most exciting things that have happened to me in awhile. On my regular Wednesday trip to the comic shop I was pulled over by my girl Jasmine. She told me that Pat, another cool guy from midtown comics, was contacted by a friend who was in need of an artist. Fortunately for me they both thought of me. Pat told me all he knew was that his buddy needed a drawing of Carl Weathers. I couldn't imagine what for, but I was interested for 2 reasons. 1) CARL WEATHERS! and 2) The guy who needed the art worked in my building, for MTV Movies.

After getting his card from Pat I went on about my comic shopping. After leaving the shop I grabbed lunch and went back to the office. When I got back I called the number on the card and got Joshua on the phone. He asked me to come down and meet him and his coworker Brian.

When I got down to their floor they told me that Carl was coming in the next day for an interview. They had the idea to present him with a drawing a long time ago but had never followed though on it. At the last minute they revisited that idea and that's where I came in. They wanted to know if I had the time and interest to do this, as it was for no pay and was needed the next day.

The thought of me being able to do something for Carl, and him owning a piece of my work was more than enough for me to want to do it. I told them not to worry, I'd have there drawing first thing in the morning. They were both very excited and proceeded to tell me the idea they had for he picture. I took down all the info and reference they had, thanked them both and when back to work.

At the end of the work day I went over to Lee's art store and bough some pens, markers and a nice frame for the drawing. I headed home reviewing the ideas of how I was going to approach this. As soon as I got home I jumped straight on it. At about 4:00 am the art was done and I was drained. This was the first full color marker drawing I had done in years. It was super fun to do but a lot of work since I had no time for practice or warm ups. Regardless, It was done and I was happy.

The next morning I came into the office and called Joshua. I came down to their floor and dropped off the piece, which they seemed very excited about. After that I went back to work like nothing had ever happened. I assumed my roll in this whole affair was over, and I was just satisfied knowing they would send me a pic of him holding up the artwork.

Later on in the day I got a call from Brian saying I could come down and meet Carl if I wanted to...Who wouldn't want to!?!?!?! I got down there as soon as I could and there were plenty of people buzzing about his presence there. He was on the phone so people we milling around the area he was in.

As we were all standing there trying to figure out what to say and who would talk first, we all heard a loud "GET BACK TO WORK PEOPLE!". As we turned to see who dared say such a thing we were all shock to find it was David Koechner, who had been traveling with Carl promoting their movie "The Comebacks". As soon as we realized who it was we all laughed as he walked toward the elevator. From his POV he couldn't see Carl, and altho they had been traveling together, neither know the had stops in the MTV building at the same time. Brain and I chased him down and brought him back to where Carl was. They joked from a few minutes and planned to see each other at dinner before David left.

Once Carl got off the phone people converged on his area, effectively blocking him into the cubical area he was in. A girl from the movies department went to talk to him first, and was so excited she couldn't stand still. Carl being the cool guy he is, joked about it and started moving around just as she was. It was pretty funny.

Once she was done with her convo / photo session I was introduced to him as the artist who did his picture. He was very excited to me me as I was to meet him. I told him how much I admired him and his work and he told me how he liked my art. Then he told me to become famous so the art will be worth millions, to which I replied "I'm working on it"! We took a few pictures together and then I stepped aside so others could take their turn.

The whole thing happened so fast if it weren't for the pictures I'd hardly think it was real. This was just an example of being in the right place right time. I was very grateful for the opportunity and I still get excited just thinking about it. Here are some pics of me and Carl as well as the drawing I did. The other pics can be seen on my Flikr account.

Invincible pinup
-So After a few years of reading this book, and doing a few pinups for it, I decided it was time for another one. This pinup was pretty fun to work on. Anytime I get to draw large tentacles being ripped apart I'm gonna be a happy person. At current the pic is over with my boy Marc Deering who is kind enough to ink this bad boy up for me. Once he lays his magic down on it it'll be over to Kanila Tripp next. Keep an eye out for more on this pic.

BTW, I'm going to be doing some more comic work soon. I realized this year I've only done 2 pinups...2!!!!!!! That's no good. So for those of you who would like to help a brother out, just ask me where my comic work is every once and awhile, just to see if I'm working on anything.

Nickatnite.com
- At my day job working for Nickelodeon, I was just part of a huge redesign of the nickatnite site. Take a few minutes to check it out. The main page has been upgraded as well as all of the show pages. We'll still be adding alot of stuff to the site over the next few weeks/months, so keep checking back often.

Teasers

Batman Strikes
Lastly I'm working on some pretty cool things that I can't talk about yet. The first has to do with an issue of Batman Strikes. It's supposed to drop Feb 13 2008. No, I'm not drawing it, but I am involved...Stay tuned on that one.

Nascar
The other thing I got going on has to do with Nascar. This project is very exciting. I have no idea when this will be hitting the public, but when I can say more on it I will.

That's all for now, as if that wasn't enough, lol. I'll holla soon.

WesBigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12120585067659382481noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28887477.post-24842050572763516562007-10-28T07:57:00.000-07:002007-10-28T08:02:34.432-07:00Back in the house!Sup everyone. I have heard the album and can say for sure that it is HOT! I have not however seen how they hooked up the Illustrations with the song copy and credits and all that. The album was recently released and I should be getting my copy soon. Until then, I've posted a few of the pieces in my gallery section, under the commercial heading. When I get the final version I will post them as well. I've been doing some drawing as of late. Most of it for stuff I can't show you yet, but you know I will as soon as I can. I did get a chance to finish this pic for my boy Kon so I'm posting it before I forget, lol. Some of the tones got lost in the scan, but you'll get the idea. I'm pretty tired now so I'm off to lay down. Holla.

WesBigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12120585067659382481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28887477.post-60485824359659953782007-07-11T06:59:00.001-07:002007-07-11T07:00:59.595-07:00AM Pinup #2 Colored
Hey everyone.
